Tremaine: A Year Too Long
Damn she fine, I thought as I pulled up in front of the large house that my best friend’s parents had rented in Tappahannock for the weekend and noticed a nice looking red bone sitting on the porch steps. Now was not the time for a hook up with one of my best friend’s possible little cousins. I’d just arrived to attend the 30th anniversary party of my best friend’s parents, who were much like my own. That was the only thing on my agenda for the weekend.
But…damn. She looked good.
She was talking on her cell phone and rubbing the stomach of a large golden retriever. Deep dimples were on both sides of her face as she laughed at whatever the person on the phones was saying. I watched her for a few moments after I shut off the rental car. Oh she was bad. As the heat of not having the air conditioner on anymore, got to me I took the keys out of the ignition and grabbed my phone from the passenger seat, I opened the door and stepped out.
And that’s when she noticed me for the first time. Her face broke into a wide, fully dimpled, excited smile and something in me jerked to realization. Right before my eyes she shape-shifted or morphed or something and became…Wait, no it wasn’t…Yes—yes it was Ariana.
What the—?
Ari. My best friend. The crazy chick that’d been like a sister to me since I met her in middle school fifteen years ago. She was the one girl I’d never ever look at that way, ever.
Damn, I was all I was thinking.
All the sexual thoughts I had running through my head disappeared as I realized why I didn’t recognize her. She’d lost weight and her hair was different, it was longer and straighter or something. Then to top it off I hadn’t seen her in almost a year, so I wasn’t completely crazy in thinking she was someone else.
“Trey!” Ari squealed, ending her call and running towards me. “You’re early.”
I returned her smile as I opened my arms in time to catch her. Her chin hooked over my shoulder, and suddenly she was everything wonderful and familiar—the friend I knew and loved, same as always.
Yet that new sexual awareness was still there, too. I tried to ignore it, but she felt too damn good against me. It was only now, at that moment that I realized how much I’d missed her since I last saw her. My schedule had tripled with the movie I was shooting, and working on my new album, but that was no excuse. Almost a year was way too long to go without seeing her and I swore to myself I wouldn’t let so much time pass between visits in the future.
Her light smell always reminded me of brown sugar and never in fifteen years had I noticed Ari’s breast, but there was no ignoring them now as they were pressed against me. My conscious, however was kicking in. This was wrong. Touching Ari while thinking sexual thoughts about her was utterly and completely WRONG. I could not and would not lust after, long for Ariana and ruin the single most important friendship I’d ever had.
We were interrupted by the barking of the golden retriever, who had been sitting quietly watching us but was now at our sides. I sat Ariana down as I lend down to pet the dog. “This is Roscoe?”
Laughing Ari said, “Yeah, fifteen years later and he’s still kicking.”
“Damn he’s old.”
“But he’s still as strong and crazy as he was that day we found him.”
“I should’ve taken him home with me,” I said, standing tall again and turning to the trunk to get my bag.
Folding her arms, Ari smiled and lend against the car. “So did they kick you off set?”
I chuckled as I picked up my bag. “Nah. It was time for a break.”
“What’s up with the car?” Smiling, she gave the car a pointed once over. “When did Trey Songz start driving himself around?”
“I haven’t changed that much,” I said, with a smirk. “But actually I just wanted some time to myself, you know. I always have a bunch of people around me, so I wanted a breather.”
At that moment my stomach growled extra loud, causing Ari to laugh. “Well I see your stomach hasn’t changed much. Let’s get you inside so momma can feed you.”
I nodded then closed the trunk and locked the car as I followed her into the house.
“Guess who I found hanging around outside,” Ari said, opening the screen door to reveal her large family, including my momma and my brother little brother Forrest all in the large living room.
“Hey everybody!” I said, smiling at all the familiar faces and some new ones.
I was bombarded with hugs, kisses, pats on the backs, and questions. I was happy to be around people who knew and loved me, Tremaine and not because I was Trey Songz, they were real and not pretending because of who I was.
“See you don’t like to come around anymore,” Mrs. Alyssa, Ari’s mother said as she hugged and kissed me.
I laughed. “Now you know I love being around ya’ll.”
“Sure you do. That’s why you’re always here,” Mr. Charles, Ari’s father said, patting my back. “Ariana are you fixing Trey a plate?”
“Yeah!” Ari yelled from the kitchen.
“Trey baby you look tired,” my momma said, looking me over.
“A little,” I said, realizing I hadn’t had a full nights rest in a while.
Mrs. Alyssa pointed upstairs as she told me, “How about you go upstairs in the last room on the right and settle in, maybe take a nap. I’ll have Ariana bring your food up.”
I nodded and followed her directions. Once in the room, I dropped my bag by the dresser and flopped on the bed. Before I knew it I had dozed off, but shortly after I was awakened by a soft knock on the door.
“Come in,” I said, sitting up.
In walked Ari with a steaming plate of food and a glass of what looked like lemonade. “I got you all of your favorites and some peach cobbler set aside for you downstairs.”
Always ready to eat, I quickly took the plate from her as she sat the glass on the nightstand. “My momma and Mrs. Alyssa cook all this?”
“Most of it, I did the macaroni and all the desserts. We started cooking yesterday,” Ari said, sitting on the bed next to me.
She sat there quietly for awhile not saying anything, just swinging her feet like a little kid. Something was on her mind so I asked, “Alright Ari, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” she mumbled softly, not looking at me.
Something was really up and I wasn’t letting it go until she told me the truth, so I sat my plate down on the nightstand and turned to face her. “Ok, Miss Lady what’s going on?”
She gave me a confused look. “What are you talking about?”
“Something’s up with you. Normally you’d have a lot to tell me about what’s been going on with you since we last spoke, so get to talking.”
She giggled. “There’s nothing new to tell.”
I looked at her for a moment, seeing that she was holding something back. I debated whether or not to press her to tell me. Ari could be very stubborn at times so I decided against it and picked my plate back, resumed eating.
Ari started playing with my hair. “No offense but are you trying to grow your braids back or something?”
Laughing I said, “Nah, just trying something new.”
“Well I’m gonna need you to try some clippers, cause this isn’t a good look.”
“My fans like it.”
“Your fans will like anything as along as you take your shirt off.”
I laughed. “You maybe right but I like it.”
“It’s your head,” she said with a shrug and got up to go look in the mirror on the dresser.
That’s when I noticed what she was wearing, a leopard print maxi dress. Though it was typical Ari style, something about the way it was fitting her, brought back all the sexual thoughts from earlier. I saw myself slowly slipping the straps off her arm and kissing her neck and…
“Trey!” Ari said, snapping me out of my thoughts.
“What?” I asked, trying to act normal.
She laughed as she stooped down in front of me, picking something up. “I said you’re getting macaroni on the floor.”
“Oh shit,” I said, setting my plate down and reaching down to help her. “My bad.”
Ari had gotten it all up before I could and as she stood up straight she said, “You looked spaced out, is there something on your mind.”
I wanted to say, yeah like when in the hell did you get so damn fine, but instead I said, “Nah, just tired.”
“Being tired never caused you to waste and drop food before,” she said, heading towards the door. “I’ll back with the cobbler and try not to spill anymore food please.”
As she closed the door behind her I continued to eat, trying to figure out how I was going to get through the weekend if I kept thinking about fucking my best friend. Ari and I knew almost everything there was to know about one another, so it would be pretty hard for me to hide anything from her.
By the time I had finished my food and my lemonade, Ari was just walking back in the room. “Damn Ari, was there a traffic jam downstairs?”
She giggled as she handed me the cobbler. “Actually there was. Niecey just got here with the boys and you know I had to see my babies.”
“Uh-huh next time come quick with a nigga’s food,” I said with my mouth full.
“Boy I come when I want to come,” she said with a grin as she rolled her eyes.
As she said that I thought about the ways I could make her cum, and then caught myself. I couldn’t have these thoughts and it was killing me that I couldn’t stop them.
“So I invited Chris and that lil girlfriend of his. Um what’s her name…? Karate?” Ari said, sounding dry.
I laughed almost choking on the pie. “Now you know her name is Karrueche, stop playing.”
“My bad, I forgot,” she said, shrugging her shoulders. “But anyway, they’re on the way.”
“Ms. Joyce coming too?” I asked.
“You know it ain’t a party until Ms. Joyce show up. You know her, momma, and Ms. April about to cut the fool,” she said, smiling.
“Oh, bump this weekend being about your parent’s anniversary. Those three are about to show out.”
Ari laughed as her phone rang. “Hello…ok here we come.”
“Who was that and where we going?” I asked as she hung up.
“Chris, they just got here,” she said, opening the door.
“Alright cool,” I said, finishing off my cobbler.
I followed her downstairs, which seemed to have doubled with the amount of people.
“Oh my god, Trey Songz and Chris Brown are standing right in front of me,” one of Ari’s little cousin, who I had never seen before, said as she talked on her cell phone. “I am so serious girl. They’re moms are friends with my auntie and they are friends with my cousin I promise.”
I laughed as I took my plate in the kitchen, which had more people in it. The plate was taken from me then I was shooed out of there. As I was coming out, Ari grabbed my hand and led me in the living room, where Ms. Joyce was waiting on a hug from me.
“I know you didn’t walk past me and not hug or speak,” she said, embracing me.
I smiled. “I’m sorry Ms. Joyce.”
“You lucky I like you boy.”
Laughing, I felt Ari grab my hand again. “Sorry to steal him away Ms. Joyce but his services are needed outside.”
Ms. Joyce smiled and turned to Ms. Alyssa as Ari damn near dragged me outside where all her little cousins had gathered around Chris. Karrueche was standing off to the side, smiling.
“Hey ya’ll here’s Trey,” Ari said, pushing towards the crowd as she went and stood next to Karrueche.”
I dapped Chris as I joined him in the middle of the small crowd. They all want pictures, autographs, and one even called all her friends and had us talk to them.
By the time we were done, it was dark and people were starting to leave to go to their hotels or houses. I was glad all those people weren’t staying at the house; it was too damn many of them.
Karrueche and Ariana both were sitting on the porch swing, drinking, talking, and laughing like they had been friends forever.
“Nice to see you two getting along,” Chris said as we walked towards them.
Ari looked at Karrueche and smiled. “Yeah well Kae isn’t as bad as I thought.”
Karrueche laughed. “Try telling Chris’s fans that.”
We all laughed.
“Yo, what ya’ll drinking?” Chris asked, reaching for Karrueche’s glass.
Karrueche moved her glass away quickly. “Oh no, you betta go in there and get your own.”
“I just wanna know what it is.”
“Go see.”
Ari and I laughed at them as Chris went in the house.
“So Trey, where’s Jess?” Karrueche asked, taking a sip of her drink.
“In Miami,” I said, rubbing my neck.
Karrueche grinned as she asked, “Why isn’t she here with you?”
Ari looked at me intently and for some reason I got nervous under her stare as I asked, “Are you trying to figure out if she’s my girl or something?”
Karrueche nodded.
“Well no, Jess and I are just friends,” I said.
Chris busted through the screen door laughing. “Yo, Ari your pops is a trip. This man just did the damn cat daddy.”
That broke us out of the awkwardness as we all laughed.
“He learned watching yo crazy ass,” Ari said, getting up to go look through the screen door. “These old folks are crazy.”
I was right behind her, watching as our parents tried to do all these new dances. We laughed and went back over to the swing.
“So guys what’s up with ya’ll new movies?” Ari asked, looking at me and Chris.
I yawned. “Nothing much, it’s gonna be good, but I’m tired as hell.”
Chris nodded in agreement. “Same here, if it wasn’t for your parent’s anniversary weekend I would use this lil break to catch up on some sleep.”
“I wanna thank you guys for coming out though, for real,” Ari said.
Chris was about to say something but Ari’s cousin Niecey came out on the porch with her three little ones.
“Ya’ll leaving?” Ari asked, getting up and going over to them.
Niecey nodded. “Yeah, it’s after twelve and Robert stays tripping about these kids being up after ten so I’m gonna get them home in the bed.”
“Ok,” Ari said, picking up the youngest one. “Let me walk ya’ll to the car.”
“I will, goodnight ya’ll.”
We all waved goodbye as Ari walked them to the car.
“Bruh I’m tired as fuck,” I said, covering my mouth as I yawned.
“Take yo ass to sleep then nigga,” Chris said, laughing. “Nobody stopping you.”
“You ain’t said nothing but a word,” I said, laughing and going to the door. “Night ya’ll see you tomorrow.”
After hugging and kissing people goodnight on my way upstairs, I finally got in my room and I was thankful I had a private bathroom. I took a long hot shower that had to be at least forty-five minutes. Being that I didn’t expect anyone to bother anymore for the rest of the night, I just threw on a pair of Calvin Klein boxers and got in the bed. As tired as I was I couldn’t close my eyes and go to sleep, images of Ari running through my mind. I was trying to figure out how someone I had known almost all of my life and thought of as my little sister could suddenly become so sexy to me. It seemed like ever since I pulled up and saw her, everything she did was sexy.
My thoughts were interrupted by a soft knock on the door, followed by it being pushed open.
“Trey, you asleep?” Ari stage whispered as her silhouette appeared in the doorway.
I chuckled. “If I was I’m not now.”
“Good.”
Before I could respond, Ari walked completely in the room, shut the door, and turned of the lamp next to me on the nightstand. She stood in front of me dressed in black, white, and gray plaid pajama pants and a gray tank top with her hands on her hip.
I turned on my side and looked at her, grinning. “Something on your mind?”
She took a deep breath, and then sat on the edge of the bed. “Remember earlier when you asked me if something was bothering me?”
I nodded.
“Well, there is something that I haven’t told anyone and the only person I think I can tell is you,” she said, looking down as her eyes began to water.
That’s when I knew it was something serious, so I sat up and lifted her chin. “Ari what’s wrong?”
“Something bad happened. Something really bad,” she said as the tears slowly began to fall from her cheeks.
I was worried. Throughout our fifteen year friendship I had never seen Ari like this. No matter how hard things got or what she was going through Ari never cried. I started to think of all the times we had talked on the phone or texted each other and even her twitter updates, nothing seemed to pop out at me that something was going on with her. Whatever was going on it was serious.
“Ariana tell me.”
She was quiet for a minute, searching my face as if debating on if she wanted to tell me, and then finally she spoke. “You remember that guy Shaun I was dating? Well we broke up back in May and a few weeks later I found out I was six weeks pregnant…”
“So you’re pregnant?” I asked, cutting her off.
“No,” she mumbled softly as the tears came down heavier. “That’s what I need to tell you. When I went to see him about the baby, he handed me $300 and told me to get rid of it.”
Ari had always been against abortion, so I sat in disbelief and shock at the thought of her aborting her baby. “Ari please tell me you didn’t.”
She shook her head. “No, you know I would never do that. I told him where he could go with all that but I took the money and bought the baby a few outfits. The doctors told me that I had a high-risk pregnancy because of my family history of miscarriage, but I didn’t listen. Remember when you called me, before you hit the stage at the BET awards? Well that’s the night I lost the baby and I was in the hospital alone. It was all my fault; I should’ve listened to the doctor and then I would have my baby.”
I thought for a moment and I remembered how I was so excited about my performance that I wasn’t really listening to her. When Ari needed me the most I was too busy worrying about myself and what I had going on that I didn’t care to hear the sadness and distress in her voice.
I pulled Ari close, letting her cry against my bare chest. I realized that she had been holding all this in with no one to tell it to and when she needed someone to be there the most, no one was there.
When her cries subsided to sniffles I lifted her chin so I could look her straight in the eyes, then I wiped away her tears with my thumb. “Ari listen to me okay? It is not your fault. You were already at risk, ok? Maybe it was God’s way of saying you’re not ready and that he wants you to wait for the man who’s going to marry you and build a family with you. Everything happens for a reason because God has a plan for you.”
She gave me a small smile as she asked, “When did you become so religious?”
“I’ve always been,” I said, chuckling.
“I know, you’ve always got something Godly to say, plus you always know what to say to make me feel better,” she said, flipping standing up and flipping the covers back. “Now scoot over.”
“Um, don’t you have a room and bed of your own?” I asked, moving over.
She got in the bed beside with her back to me. “I sure do your point?”
Despite the moment we had just shared, the sexual feelings I had for her started to come back with the feel of her so close and the simply fact that she got close enough she could feel my dick if it got hard. Those feelings just weren’t making any sense to me.
Ari cut the light off the light and snuggled a little closer to me. “Goodnight, fat head.”
“Goodnight and stay on your side of the bed. You know how you like to sleep all over the place,” I said, chuckling.
“You just don’t poke with that thing of yours in the middle of the night, cause you having a wet dream or something,” she said, laughing real hard.
I damn near choked on air. “What the hell you talking about Ari?”
She was laughing uncontrollably as she said, “I remember when you were working on Ready and I came to visit and we slept in your bed, because it was too late for me to check in a hotel and I woke up with my leg sticky.”
“Oh shit,” I said, remembering exactly what had happened. “I thought we decided never to bring that up again?”
“We did, I just wanted to make sure it didn’t happen again.”
I playfully yanked the cover away from her and turned my back to hers. “Go to your damn room Ariana.”
She giggled and I felt her moved then her head on my side. ”Nope, I think I’m gonna stay here tonight.”
I laughed and said, “Goodnight Ari.”
“Night Trey.”
Ariana: Mixed Feelings
The smell of food woke me up from the most peacefully sleep I’d had in a month, thanks to Trey. He always seemed to know what to say to make me feel better. I was lying on his chest as his arm was wrapped around me. I smiled up at him and started tickling his chin.
He jumped a little then realized it was me when he opened his eyes. “Ari you play too much.”
I laughed and sat up. “You love me anyway. Now get up.”
He groaned and rolled over.
“Ok, well they’re cooking and more than likely Chris is already here and eating all the food,” I said, getting out of the bed and knowing he would get up for some food.
“Alright give me, ten minutes.”
I smiled and left the room, closing the door behind me. I went across the hall to my room. I brushed my teeth and washed my face then went downstairs to the already crowded kitchen. As I had expected Trey and Chris were sitting at the kitchen table with plates full of food and my boy crazy cousins surrounding them, while Karrueche sat close to Chris eating and laughing. Roscoe sat by the back down, sleeping.
“Good morning everybody,” I said, kissing my daddies cheek.
“Hey baby, I saved you a plate because if I didn’t Trey and Chris would have eaten everything,” Ms. April said, holding a plate towards me and ushering me to the table.
“If ya’ll don’t get ya’ll hot tails out of here,” my mother said, swatting a spatula at my cousins. “Tiara, Jessica and Samantha ya’ll need to get ya’ll behinds dressed.”
Moaning and groaning, all the girls under the age of eighteen made their way out of the room. I laughed as I sat down in between Trey and Karrueche.
“What are we doing today, Daddy?” I asked, cutting my pancakes.
Daddy leaned against the counter, sipping his coffee. “You know I’m barbequing and your mom has a lot of stuff planned, but you know guys don’t have to stick around. Jesse said something about a creek, not to far from here.”
“Dang, I haven’t swum in a creek in a while,” Trey said, laughing.
Karrueche looked disgusted. “You shouldn’t have to, that’s what pools and beaches are for. Ew.”
“Creeks aren’t anything but smaller beaches,” my momma said. “When you don’t have money for a house with a pool or drive down to the beach, you make do with what you have.”
I laughed. “Trust me Kae, I felt the same way my first time, but peanut head Trey threw me in and I had no choice but to learn to enjoy it.”
“I guess,” she said with a shrug. “But couldn’t ya’ll just go to Virginia Beach?”
Trey nodded. “Sure that’s what we did when we got older but as little kids, it’s we only place we had to go to.”
“Now are ya’ll gonna stick around or go looking for the creek?” Ms. Joyce asked, bringing more pancakes to the table.
“We’ll be back in time for the basketball game,” Chris said, smirking and nudging Karrueche. “Cause we’re going to show Kae how we country folks do.”
I almost choked on the orange juice I was drinking because I was laughing at how Chris’s started to speak in a Deep South accent. Everybody else laughed as well. Trey was patting my back to help ease my coughing.
I was still coughing when Niecey walked in the kitchen with her husband Robert.
“Dang, Ari are dying?” she asked, hugging Ms. April.
“Sound like it, don’t it?” Chris said, laughing at the face I was making. “Then look at that face she’s making, just ugly.”
I threw a piece of bacon across the table at him. “Shut up!”
He laughed and ate the bacon. “Delicious.”
“Anyway,” I said, turning to Niecey and Robert finally able to talk. “Hey ya’ll, where my babies at?”
“They ran off with all the other kids,” Robert said, making his rounds with hugs. “You know they can’t keep still.”
I smiled at the statement as I finished up the rest of my food. “We’re going looking for a creek, ya’ll coming?”
“Whose we?” Niecey asked, giving Kae a pointed look.
I gave her the evil eye and pointed to everyone at the breakfast table. “Us.”
She rolled her eyes as Robert responded for them. “Yeah we’ll come.”
“Ok we’ll I’m gonna go hop in the shower and get dressed then we can head out,” I said, getting up and taking my plate to the sink.
“Yeah me too,” Trey said, getting up as well.
Once upstairs in my room, I pulled out a multi colored bikini and pair short shorts. I took a quick shower, got dressed, pulled my hair into a ponytail, slipped on my sandals and grabbed my cell phone and an extra towel as I left the room.
Everybody was waiting for me on the front porch.
“Took you long enough,” Niecey said, standing up.
“Where did Jesse say the creek was?” I asked as we all headed down the porch stairs.
“He didn’t you, know how Jesse is,” Trey said.
I nodded. Jesse was one of those people who’d give a little information than expect you to find out the rest for yourself, no matter how difficult that might be.
The guys led the way as Kae, Niecey and I were behind them. I walked in between Niecey and Kae because Niecey didn’t like Kae. It had something to do with Kae and Team Breezy, what exactly I wasn’t so sure off.
“So Kae, what are you going to swim in? Cause that sure doesn’t look like something you’d wear to swim in,” Niecey said, indicating Kae’s sundress.
Kae smirked as she showed her bikini knot around her neck. “Its summer time, I never leave the house without a bikini.”
Niecey rolled her eyes, and then looked at me. “And you miss thang, what’s going on with you and Trey?”
“What are you talking about?” I asked a little confused.
“I heard Ms. April and Auntie Alyssa talking about ya’ll two all cuddled in the bed together last night,” she said with a raised eyebrow.
Kae had a big ole Cheshire cat grin on her face. “I thought he was like your ‘brother’ at least that’s what you said last night.”
I took offense to what they were insinuating. “He is like my brother, okay? I needed a shoulder to cry on last night and he was there for me. Plus I didn’t want to sleep alone, that’s all nothing more.”
“I think we’ve hit a nerve,” Niecey said, cracking up.
I stopped walking, causing them to stop as well and looked them both in the eyes. “Tremaine and I are nothing but friends and we’ll never be more than that. I consider him to be my brother and he considers me to be his sister. We’re just close like that.”
“Admit it Ari, you have had to looked at Trey at least once and wanted to just, do some things to him,” Niecey said, giving me a look that said ‘don’t play.’
I giggled at the thought. “Ok, maybe once or twice, but it was innocent.”
Kae said, “Well Trey wasn’t looking at you so innocently when you came outside.”
Niecey agreed. “I saw that too, he looked like a dog drooling over a bone.”
“Stop playing,” I said not believing them. “Trey would never.”
“He had to adjust his pants to hide his rising…” Kae was cut off my Chris walking towards.
“We done found the damn creek, thinking ya’ll asses was behind us and ya’ll all they the way back here,” he said, fussing at us. “Bring ya’ll asses on.”
The three of us tried to stifle our laughter as we followed him. Once we got to the creek, I saw a big tire swing and all my childhood memories came flooding back. I smiled, I took my shorts and sandals off and set them along with my towel on a near by tree branch. I made sure my phone was securely in the pocket of my shorts then walked towards the water when I was lifted off the ground and seconds later in the water. When I finally came up for air, Trey was a few feet away from me laughing his ass of with everybody else as they stood still dry on the bank.
“I can’t stand you,” I laughed as I splashed him. “You play too much.”
“Shit, Ari my damn my eye,” he said with his hand over his eye. “I can’t got damn see.”
I went over to him full of concern. “I’m so sorry Trey. Let me see.”
So much for being concerned because once I was close enough and moving his hand from his eye, Trey had me under the water again. It was officially a sign of war. I was gonna get him back eventually. It was gonna be when he least expected it.
“Alright Trey you got it,” I said, smiling backing away from him. “Punk!”
Soon everybody was in the water and you would’ve sworn we were a bunch of twelve year olds the way were playing and not in our twenties. My leg started to cramp up a little bit so I got out of the water and sat down on the bank with my towel wrapped around my waist. I was trying my best to massage the cramp away while I checked my phone for updates at work; instead I got an email back from my business partner telling me to stop checking in. I cringed as the pain in my leg got worst. I hated leg cramps, they were worst, well after period cramps.
“I don’t think paying more attention to your phone then your leg is gonna help the pain,” Trey said as he walked towards me.
I had to admit that with his chest wet and glistening in the sunlight was a little sexy to me. I cleared my throat a little bit as I said, “I know and it hurts bad.”
He sat grabbed his towel off the same branch my shorts hung from, dried his chest off then put the towel on the ground next to me and sat down. He patted his lap as he said, “Put your leg up here.”
I did as he said and continued to check my Facebook and Twitter on my phone, enjoying the feel of his hands as the pain eased. Once I got bored with my phone, I looked up at Trey and saw his brows furrowed like he had a lot on his mind. “A penny for your thoughts.”
He looked up at me like he had forgotten I was there then said, “What? Oh, um nothing.”
“Trey,” I said, stopping his hands as they moved along my leg. “When someone says penny for your thoughts usually you share your thoughts.”
“It’s nothing, let it go.”
“I’ve known you long enough to know when you’re got something on your mind, so spill it.”
“Damn it Ariana leave it the fuck alone,” he said, his full of frustration.
“Trey I just…“ I was stopped by him getting up real quick and walking away. I was confused as hell and couldn’t understand why he just didn’t tell me what was bothering him. It wasn’t that we told each other everything, but we didn’t have secrets between one another and I felt like he was keeping something from me.
Instead of going back into the water, Trey walked in the direction opposite of the way we had come. I decided to follow him, because I was going to get to the bottom of what was going on with him.
“Trey!” I called after him as I quickly slipped on my sandals and secured the towel around my waist.
“Ari, what’s going on?” Niecey said as I walked past them.
“Nothing, we’ll be back,” I said, rushing after Trey. He had some distance on me but with me being as determined as I was to find out what was going on with him, I caught up with him quickly. “Boy I’m not one of your fans and I refuse to run after you but you’re going to tell me what the hell is going on with you.”
He chuckled. “Nobody told you to run after me.”
I rolled my eyes. “Something you wanna say because yo ass took off like I pissed you off and I swear all I did was ask a question.”
“Ari I think you should just leave it alone,” he said, leaning against a tree.
“No, I’m not letting it go because obviously something is bothering you and as your best friend it is my duty to make sure you’re ok. So spill it because I’m not going anywhere,” I said, folding my arms. He just looked at me not saying anything. It made me feel uncomfortable and started thinking of the conversation I’d had with Kae and Niecey earlier. “Ok since you won’t talk I will. So Kae and Niecey had this crazy idea that there’s something between us. Crazy right? I just told them that wasn’t possible because we’re like brother and sister, right?”
He nodded as he looked off somewhere in the trees.
I moved closer to him. “Trey tell me what’s wrong? Why’d you walk away like that? What did I say or do wrong?”
“Shit Ari! You didn’t anything and that’s the point!” he yelled, confusing me even more. “You’re the same Ariana you’ve always been and for some reason all I want to do is kiss you and grab your ass. That’s what the fuck wrong with me.”
I heard what he said but I didn’t all the way process it. “But you said we were like brother and sister, how—“
He sighed. “I know what I said Ari, but I can’t help what I feel. You are like my sister, which makes this all the more worst and confusing. I don’t want feel this way but I do. Fuck!”
I looked anywhere but at him. I had no words for what I was hearing and I was completely and utterly at a lost for words when I was pulled closed to him and his lips were against mine. They were so soft and I could not believe how good they felt. I don’t think I’d ever shared a kiss like that with anyone not even my first kiss. I didn’t want the kiss to ever end and when he finally pulled away I was breathless.
“If you were my sister we’d be going to hell for that,” he said with a slight smile on his face.
I had to get away. I wasn’t supposed to like the kiss and want more. It just wasn’t right. I left him there. I had to sort these feelings out. I couldn’t understand it. My mind was cloudy and I was certain of nothing. My mind was so far gone I almost didn’t see Chris, Kae, Niecey, and Robert all standing hiding behind trees. If I had been in my right I would have said something but I just wanted to get away from Trey.
I heard him call my name which only made my stride turn into a run. I only stopped to grab my shorts from the branch then I booked it all the way back to the house, not knowing how I remembered the way back.”
“Ariana what’s wrong?” my little cousin Sabrina asked as I sped past them as she sat on the porch with a bunch of my other little cousins.
I ignored her and went inside. I had to slow down once I got into the house because much like yesterday it was filled with people. I skirted by and got upstairs with no problem. I got in my room, locked the door and lend against it. I was out of breath and confused. I didn’t want to think about it anymore, I wished it hadn’t happened and I wouldn’t have been having mixed feelings.
My cell phone began to play Holla If You Need Me, Trey’s ringtone. I refused to answer, so I silenced the ringer and threw the phone on the bed. I got in the shower with the hopes of it washing away my feelings. There was no such luck because as I was in the shower I began to think about his lips. I just wanted to slap Trey for kissing me.
Tremaine: Let’s Be Grown About This
“Damn,” was all I said when Ari didn’t pick up her phone. I would’ve tried calling her back, but I was never one to keep calling a chick. Then again it was Ari and I should’ve been trying to make it right. I started walking in the direction Ari had disappeared from. I could hear Niecey loud ass talking behind me, making jokes.
I fucked up, I thought as I distanced myself from the four of them. I couldn’t have just kept my mouth shut and kept my lips to myself keeping things they way they were. Then again, Ari’s lips were softer I thought they would’ve been. I knew I wanted to taste her lips again, but I couldn’t. I couldn’t make our friendship more complicated then it had already become. I had to talk to Ari so we could figure out what the hell was going on.
When I made it to the house, a group of Ari’s cousins were sitting on the porch.
“Hey Trey, what’s wrong with Ariana? She just ran past us not too long ago and she looked upset,” one of them said when they saw me.
I didn’t think they needed to know what was going on so I shrugged my shoulders. I quickly moved past them into the house. I tried to move as quickly as possible through everybody without being noticed, but was stopped my mother who whispered in my ear as I walked past her, “Her room is across from yours.”
I smiled at her and wondered how she knew as I went up the stairs two at a time. Once at the end of the hall I stood between the two rooms, debating if I should go in my room and give her time to cool down or go ahead and knock on Ari’s door. I decided it would be best to let her cool down, giving us both some time to think. I went in my room and hopped in the shower. When I was done I felt so much better, like I could face Ari head on with no regrets. I dried off, wrapped the towel around me and stepped into the bedroom to get dress, only to find Ari sitting on the unmade bed with her arms folded and the look of death on her face. She was pissed.
“We need to talk,” she said, her voice full of venom.
I didn’t know whether to be scared of the petite woman or to laugh it off and continue getting dressed. “Um do you mind if it waits until I’m dressed?”
She huffed as she got off the bed and walked out of the room, closing the door hard behind her but not to where it made a loud noise. I chuckled to myself as I opened my bag, pulling out boxers, a pair of basketball shorts and a t-shirt. Once I was dressed I opened the door to let Ari back in. Still looking pissed she leaned against the dresser with her arms folded. I sat down on the bed to put on my socks and shoes.
She waited until I was completely unoccupied before she started talking. “I can’t believe you kissed me. You shouldn’t have done that. You’re so stupid!”
“I’m stupid? Who’s the one who kept on pushing me? ‘Talk to me Trey. Tell me what’s wrong.’” I mimicked her in the dead-on impersonation I knew drove her crazy. “Well you wanted to know what was wrong with me, so I told you. You should be happy.”
“Do I look happy?” she asked, marching over to me. “You and your…your—“
She didn’t seem to want to say the word so she point down to my manhood.
“—your little friend—“
“Nothing little about it, Ari, I’m sure.”
“—won’t be happy until you’ve fucked every woman in the country. I should have known that you of all people can’t be friends with a woman. You had to ruin everything, didn’t you?”
Well, now wait a minute. I love women and sex as much as the next man—maybe a little more—but I’d been nothing but a gentleman toward Ariana our entire friendship and never dreamed of anything but until I saw her yesterday.
“Don’t blame me for this shit,” I snarled. “With your bikini and your dimples and your lips, smiling at me and whatnot, what was I supposed to—“
Pissed out she turned redder than an apple. “Don’t you dare try to blame this on me. I’m same as I always was.”
That simply wasn’t true. There was no way in hell, the woman standing before was the same Ari I had always known. “Well you can point the finger at me all you want. The fact still remains something has changed between us. It doesn’t matter whose fault it is. We’ve opened the can of worms.”
“Ya think?”
“You know what, Ariana the sarcasm I can do without.”
“Oh, you can do without a whole lot.” She sneered. “Asshole.”
I stood up, causing her to step back a little. “You’re being real childish about this, so how about we try to be adults about this and see what’s going on between us.
“No,” she said softly as she backed away from me.
“Why?” I asked moving closer.
“We just shouldn’t,” she said not looking me in the eyes anymore.
She continued to back away from me until her back was against the door. I invaded her space, blocking her from going anywhere. We were going to settle this one way or another.
“We can’t do this. We both know it. It’s not right,” she said as her breathing got heavier.
I nodded, placing my hands on her hips. I was beyond caring about whether it was right or wrong. “There’s something here, Ari. Maybe there’s been for awhile. We need to figure out what it is.”
I was caught off guard for the briefest of moments when she kissed me. There was no question on if I was gonna kiss her back, not when I felt the vibrating urgency in her body and the warmth of her lips. Not when I wanted her as much as I did. She wrapped her arms around my neck, deepening the kiss.
The sound of snickering outside the door, caused us to pause, followed by someone saying, “Its real quiet in there, you think they’re doing it?”
Another voice joined in. “Come on now, she’s in there with Mr. Neighbors-know-my-name; she wouldn’t be so quiet if they were. Now shush so I can hear what’s going on.”
A more masculine voice came down the hall. “What the hell are ya’ll nosey ass doing?”
“Damn Chris shut up I can’t tell what’s going on because of your loud behind.”
I grinned, realizing Niecey and Kae had been listening to us the whole time. Ari and I moved from behind the door and opened it.
“I think you two have heard enough,” Ari said, stepping out in front of me.
Chris and I burst out laughing when Kae and Niecey almost flew over into the room.
“So what were you two doing in there?” Niecey asked, straightening herself never missing a beat, being the nosey person she was.
“Minding our business,” Ari said with her hands on her hip.
“Ooo, you kissed him again,” Kae said, sounding like a little kid.
Smiling I said, “Ok, ok let’s be adults about this. Ari and I kissed, simply as that.”
“No it’s not that simple,” Niecey said, shaking her head. “Ari likes you and always has she just settled for being your friend because she never thought she’d have a chance with you. That’s why she took you kissing her so hard.”
“Damn Niecey tell it all why don’t you,” Kae said, smiling hard.
Ari must have had the look of death on her face because Niecey backed away and said, “Um I think I need to go check on my kids.”
“Yeah you do that,” Ari growled.
Ariana: Ready and Willing
Once Niecey, Kae, and Chris disappeared down the hall, I turned around to face Trey, ready for the questions. If big mouth Niecey would have shut her mouth Trey could have went a long time without knowing how I felt about him when I first met him.
He had this cocky grin on his face that drove me crazy. “So you’ve always liked me?”
“Yeah well see about that,” I said, smirking and scratching my head while looking down. “I was like what? 11? That was a long time ago, let’s not bring up the past and move forward with the future.”
With a raised eyebrow he asked, “What’s in the future for us?”
“I don’t know.”
“I think we should give us a chance.”
“Trey, honestly I would love nothing more, but I know how you are and I’m not up for that kind of heartbreak especially with what I just went through with losing my baby. So I—“
He cut me off. “You of all people should know I’m a good dude.”
I nodded. “You are an amazing guy but when it comes to where you are in your life, I just don’t feel like you’re ready for a serious relationship. You even said so yourself.”
“I know what I said but I also know that we should at least try and see what we’d be like as more than friends. I think we owe it to the betterment of our friendship,” he said, looking at me intensely.
I couldn’t help but smile because he looked so cute. “Okay but what happens to our friendship if things between us gets ugly and ends badly?”
“You must plan on things going that way.”
“Not even, I just don’t want our friendship to end because we didn’t work out as a couple.”
“We wouldn’t just through fifteen years down the drain, Ari.”
I looked down. “I know. I just don’t want to get my hopes up too high.”
He pulled me close, lifted my chin up, and kissed me. When he pulled back, he looked down at me and said, “Just give us a chance.”
At that moment I felt like his kisses could take away any doubts or insecurities I had. I sighed. “Ok, I’m willing to try this out.”
His brightened up so much, I had to smile despite the fact I had so many questions running through my head, but just like before the feel of his lips pushed all those questions away, for the moment at least. I felt like it was only a matter of time before the other shoe dropped, but until then I would enjoy whatever it was he and I were doing.
Our kiss was interrupted by a soft cough, reminding us we were still in the hallway. We both turned in the direction the cough came from and standing at the end of the hallway was Ms. April. I suddenly felt like I was sixteen again as I moved out of Trey’s grasp.
She smiled at us. “Ariana your mother is looking for you.”
“Yes ma’am,” I said, quickly moving down the hall and downstairs.
When I made it to the living room I felt as if all eyes were on me, like everybody knew what had transpired between Trey and I. I practically ran in the kitchen where I knew my mother would be.
“Do you know how many times I called your name?” she asked, taking a pan out of the oven.
“I’m sorry momma, I was preoccupied,” I said, lifting a pot top.
She looked at me knowingly with a small smile. “So I heard. Want to tell me what’s going on with you and Trey?”
I was thankful she and I were the only two in the kitchen or it would’ve been one hell of an awkward moment. “Honestly I’m not even sure myself momma.”
“And why not? You’ve liked that boy since you were eleven, so what is there not to be sure about?”
“A lot. Such as if this doesn’t work out what happens to our friendship.”
“Aw girl, shush. The way you start a relationship is how you end it, with that being said you two will always be friends no matter what and that’s what makes your relationship that much stronger,” she said, pushing a mixing bowl towards me. “Make a red velvet cake.”
“Momma we still got all the desserts from yesterday, we don’t need anymore. These kids are already off the walls,” I said, pushing the bowl away.
She nodded then continued with her speech. “Don’t shoot the relationship down before it starts, because you know how you are. Give him a chance. You never know he could be a whole different man with you. And you’re not perfect either; you’ve made your mistakes in relationships just like he has, just give it some time.”
I smiled and went over to her. I kissed her cheek. “You always know what to say, momma.”
“That’s my job baby. Now go watch your man play basketball.”
3 Months Later
“Ya’ll haven’t had sex yet?” my home girl and business partner Tamia practically screamed.
I looked around the restaurant, hoping no one heard her. There were a few people looking at us, but I smiled and they looked away. “Damn say it louder, I don’t think my momma heard you all the way in Virginia.”
“My bad, but come on Ari. Three months and you still haven’t tasted the beast,” she said, grinning. “I’d be all over that.”
I laughed. “I’m sure you would, but the thing is I don’t want to rush into the whole sex thing with Trey.”
She looked at me like I was crazy. “Rush? This man has been your best friend for fifteen years, you’ve waited long enough. Go get that dick!”
“You a fool,” I said, laughing.
“No you the damn fool. Every time I see you two together, ya’ll are tonguing each other down. The sexual tension is there, all you gotta do is give it to him,” she said as the waiter sat our food in front of us.
“Thank you,” I told the waiter before he walked away. “Tamia, you know how I am when it comes to sex.”
“Oh yeah a prude.”
“I prefer the word modest.”
“Whatever but you know what I think? Once Trey give you a taste, you’re gonna become the freak of freaks,” she said, nodding and cutting her steak. “Yup that’s exactly what’s gonna happen.”
I shook my head as I started eating my food. “Anyway that is not why we came here.”
“Oh yeah. Desiree has to go.”
“You keep saying that but why?”
“Daniels & Carter Catering has a brand to protect and she is not an asset to the brand. She’s been late to two events and the staff under her says she drinks while on the job and several clients have said she doesn’t stick to their menu. Then to add fuel to the fire her attitude is stupid. She has no respect for those in charge. I can’t deal with it,” Tamia said with a shrug. “Simple as that, she has to go.”
“I guess, it’s just she’s been with us for the last four years—“
“So what? She is more of a problem than a benefit to the company. Don’t think about your friendship with her, think about the company.”
I nodded. “Okay, well I’ll let her go.”
Tamia shook her head quickly. “Hell no, you too nice. I got this one.”
“Ok.”
“Now that’s done, let’s get back to this Trey situation. You gotta give him some tonight and I know just where we can go to get things heated.”
“Uh-oh.”
After lunch, Tamia dragged me to Frederick’s of Hollywood in Gwinnett Place Mall. I would’ve gone straight back to HQ but she was my ride.
“I really don’t want to be here,” I whined as we walked in the store.
Tamia rolled her eyes. “Whatever.”
I continue to complain about being there as we shopped, though I did find a few things I liked and knew Trey would love. To be honest I was kinda excited about the whole thing, but like Tamia said I was a prude. I like sex, wait scratch that I love sex, but talking about sex with my friends was always weird for me.
By the time we were done shopping I had three teddies, several bra and panty sets, and even a French maid costume. My face was red as hell when we walked out of the store. I didn’t know what I had gotten myself into, but I knew I was ready and willing I just hoped Trey was.
Tremaine: The Next Step
It was after 9:30 at night when I got to my apartment in Atlanta after a flight from Shreveport. I thought I had walked into the wrong apartment. There were rose petals and candles all over the living room and standing in the middle of it all was Ariana dressed in a red teddy. I’ve seen Ari do a lot of things but never had I ever seen her look this sexy.
She smiled that dimpled smile of hers and said, “Welcome home, Daddy.”
With a raised eyebrow and a grin I asked, “Does this mean I’m getting some?”
“I’m still debating that. Let’s see how the night goes.”
“And how exactly is the night supposed to go?”
“Well since you like to eat, I was thinking maybe some barbeque ribs, mac and cheese, and potato salad, and then maybe a nice bath,” she said, walking over to me. She took my hand and my bag then led me to the dining room.
“You know I’m expecting this treatment every time I come home right?” I asked as I sat down.
As she went to put my bag up she said, “Ha, you funny.”
I wasted no time eating, a nigga was hungry. When Ari came back she just smiled and sat across from me. That’s when I realized something. “How the hell you get in here?”
“Let’s just say I can flirt my way through any situation,” she said, smiling wickedly.
“Really?”
“And it didn’t hurt that CiCi told the guy downstairs I would be coming by.”
“I thought so.”
She laughed and from that point kept the dinner conversation light. As she cleared the dishes after we ate, she seemed a little anxious. She seemed to take the longest time to bring the dishes in the kitchen. If I wasn’t already hard from watching her walk around in the teddy, I would have gotten up from the table and went to bed.
When she was finally done, she came and stood in front of me grinning. “Ready for that bath I promised?”
I nodded as I stood up. She took my hand and led me into my bedroom that had just as many candles as the rest of the apartment.
“Strip,” she said, aggressively as she stood in front of the bathroom door.
In the last three months or fifteen years I had never seen this side of Ari and it was sexy as hell. I was happy to oblige her request. Ari was the type of person to wear her emotions on her face, so as I took off my clothes I watched her face. She bit her lip and raked her fingers across her chest as I took of my shirt.
“Wait,” she said when I started to take off my pants. “Let me do it for you.”
I smirked and raised my hands in surrender. Ari licked her lips as she walked over to me. She pressed herself against me and massaged me to full erection through my pants as she kissed me. She had my belt unbuckled, my jeans unzipped, and around my ankles in one quick movement. Without breaking the kiss I kicked my shoes off and the jeans from my ankles.
Ari pulled away. “What about the bath?”
“Fuck the bath,” I said, sitting on the bed and pulling her with me.
She straddled me and I pulled the front of her lingerie down under her breast, taking one swollen nipple in my mouth. I sucked it and then circled it with the tip of my tongue. Her body jerked in excitement and she began moaning.
“Mmm,” she whimpered, flinging her head back.
I moved over to her right breast as I massaged the left one. She started grinding on me, letting it be known she was getting impatient. I stood up, still holding her and laid her on her back. I trailed kisses down her body, pulling the teddy down along each kiss. When she was completely naked, I took a moment to admire the body I felt she had been hiding from me all these years. After getting my full of looking at her, I had to taste her. I gently pushed her legs apart and began sucking on each thigh. She sat up and looked at me as I got closer to her wetness. I used the tip of my tongue to make circles around her clit.
“Ssss,” she hissed in pleasure.
Her breathing started to get heavier as I moved my tongue up and down then started fucking her with my tongue. She grabbed the shirts as she tried to squirm away. I grabbed her hips, holding her in place. She tossed her head back as she pushed my head deeper into her, clutching her legs around my head. The tighter her legs got, the closer she was to cumming. I pulled my tongue out of her and started sucking on her clit. She then came in my mouth and licked it all up.
I stood straight up as she fell back on the bed, out of breath. I wiped my mouth with the back of my hand and licked her juices off. I let my Calvin Klein’s drop to the floor as I crawled between her legs. Ari wrapped her legs around my waist as we kissed.
“I wanna be on top, daddy,” she said, breaking the kiss.
She unwrapped her legs and I stepped back so she could get up. I took her spot on the bed, moving further back on the bed. Then she climbed on top of me, sliding a magnum on me and kissed me as she slid down on my dick. As she moved up and down on it I gripped her hips.
“Mmm,” she moaned as she sat all the way down and started moving back and forth and rolling her hips.
Ari put her hands on my chest as she started bouncing on my dick. I grabbed her ass and smacked it as she dug her nails into my chest. She closed her eyes and bit her lip as her body started shaking.
“Oh, shit Trey I’m about to cum!”
“Cum on daddy dick, baby.”
Moaning and licking her lips she came. I began grinding to her pace, moving faster the louder her moans got. The louder she moaned, the closer I felt to my nut. She moved faster, picking up the speed.
She began to chant. “Cum for me daddy.”
That drove me over the edge and I nutted. “Shit, Ari.”
She smiled down at me then kissed me before she rolled off onto her side. I slid the used condom off and threw it somewhere then reached over her to get a new one. Once the condom was on I lifted her leg and slid back inside her. I pushed her hair to the other side and she pulled the rest out of my way. I sucked on the back of her neck as started taking long deep strokes in and out of her.
“Faster baby.”
I sped up for a minute then slowed down again.
“Trey stop fucking playing with me!”
I smirked as I sped up and went in harder.
“Oh shit, yes baby right there!”
I went deeper and harder. I wanted her to have the best orgasm she’d ever had in her life. Making sure I left a hickie, I sucked the back of her neck harder and as I pounded even harder into her. She started gasping for air as I could tell I had found her spot. Her body started shaking and jerking.
She screamed my name so loud as she came. “Treeeeeeey!”
I started taking long strokes as I slowed my rhythm.
“Shit!” I groaned as I nutted again. I took a few more strokes then pulled out and laid on my back.
She turned on her stomach and looked at me with that sexy dimpled smirk of hers. “Why didn’t we have sex a long time ago?”
I laughed. “You tell me.”
“I’m too tired to have this conversation,” she said, sitting up and pulling the covers back.
I did the same and when we were comfortably under the covers and I had the second thrown somewhere in the room with the other one, Ari laid her head on my chest and closed her eyes.
“Do you think you can control that thing until I’m rested?” she asked, nuzzling my neck.
I chuckled. “I’ll try.”
Shortly after she was breathing softly and evenly, letting me know she was asleep. I looked down and saw how peaceful she looked. At that moment I knew I didn’t want to see her anything but peaceful and happy. I didn’t want to be the cause of any of her pain. I kissed her forehead and dozed off myself.
And that’s where I decided to stop and start over!
